President’s Update

Early in November the HIUG Board met at the Rosen Shingle Creek, in Orlando, Florida to continue the preparations for the 2010 HIUG conference. The board members are working harder than ever to provide yet another informative, inspiring and worthwhile conference for 2010. And, as always we are looking for your participation to share your success stories and help your colleagues understand the potential to use, manage and maintain their Oracle applications better. It is by coming together to share and learn from our own experiences that we become a stronger community of Oracle customers. Please, make your plans now to attend Interact 2010.

HIUG Pillar News

HCM Pillar Update

This quarter has been an exciting one for the Human Capital Management (HCM) Pillar with the release of PeopleSoft 9.1 as our latest buzz. With enhancements in eCompensation and the new functionality available with PeopleTools 8.5, we are all trying to see when we can upgrade! In our monthly conference calls, we have tackled “Best Practices in License/Certification tracking” by Kristi Cash at Alegent Health and 2009 Year End Reporting by Pete Mulvagh of Oracle. Both presentations had great attendance from our members and were very well done. As we go to print, the next quarter holds the following topics and dates lined up:

December 16th – Oracle Support – How do I use My Oracle?
January 27th – Overview of HCM 9.1 by Janine Clauser, Oracle

We are also actively looking for presenters for the 2010 Oracle HIUG conference, so let your HCM Pillar Chair, Marcie Boyer mlboyer@stvincent.org know if you are interested in presenting a topic or have an idea for future conference calls.

Supply Chain Pillar Update

The SCM pillar has had an active and involved membership, with great participation in the monthly calls. The group has identified a core list of Hot Topics to cover over the next year, and is working its way through the list. In October, Oracle presented information in webinar format related to the customer experience with PeopleTools 8.50, and the Procurement Contracts features in the SCM application version 9.1. We are featuring an Oracle webinar during the November call covering the new features in 9.1 Inventory.

It is that time of year that we are looking for the right mix of information to present at the 2010 HIUG conference. The call for presentations has gone out, and Supply Chain is looking forward to another great response from the customers, Oracle and the companion business partners. Please work with your SCM Pillar Chair, Deb Hetrick HETRICD@OhioHealth.com to make your interest known.

Financials Pillar Update

There was great interest in the Travel and Expense implementation discussion in one of our monthly Pillar calls and the details of which are available at www.hiug.org which included information on undocumented features. This is the type of information we share in our monthly calls that helps us be our own support team for each other.

In addition, it is that time of year that we are looking for the right mix of information to present at the 2010 HIUG conference. The call for presentations has gone out, and the Financials pillar is looking forward to another great response from the customers, Oracle and the companion business partners.

Please work with your Financials Pillar Chair, Claire Suplee Supleece@upmc.edu to make your interest known. Some of the suggestions for subject matter topics:

1) 990 reporting
2) Using MyWallet with Expenses
3) Using GHX On Demand in conjunction with AP
4) GL Best practices - reporting - nVision and Queries. How have organizations dealt with the reporting needs? Do they restrict users, do they have a reporting database, etc.
5) Project Costing - uses for and integration with Asset Management
6) Grants - I'd love it if we could get someone from one of the universities to present on how they are using the grants modules.

Tools and Technology Pillar Update

The Tools and Technology Pillar is in transition to new leadership. Kevin Barnes, from Main Line Health in suburban Philadelphia, took the reigns a short time ago. We have a Tech Pillar monthly call scheduled for December 17 to discuss future Tech Pillar Call topics and as well as a core list of Hot Topics for presentations at the conference in 2010.

We continue to work with Oracle to help us understand new technology offerings and changes to the existing technology.

Please work with your Tools and Technology Pillar Chair, Kevin Barnes BarnesKe@MLHS.ORG to provide him with your feedback.

CRM Pillar Update

CRM practice is looking for a spectacular growth spurt year for 2010. The marketplace is picking up for providers looking for CRM solutions. HIUG has teamed up with Oracle Sales to provide a marketing campaign for new oracle clients about HIUG. Now is a great time to really get those tough to answer questions answered on the CRM post. In addition, we continue to expand the Demo land with product demonstrations that are very useful for . Any member can access the demos, just navigate to the CRM community page and following instructions. We look forward to see you in Orlando for Interact 2010!

Please work with your CRM Pillar Chair, Donald Rice Jr. Don.Rice@bcbsnc.com to provide him with your feedback.

November 19, 2009: Oracle Launches PeopleSoft Enterprise Financials and Supply Chain Management 9.1 (Oracle)

Member News

In early November a mailing was sent out to all HIUG members asking them to update their Company Member Profiles in the HIUG website. This is a very important initiative for HIUG. This information includes Company Profiles, Oracle Products Portfolios, and Company Contact information, and when coupled with our Lists Services gives our members the tools required to effectively interact with each other. After this initial campaign we have over 82% of our 247 Member Profiles up to date, and are currently doing a second round of targeted communications.

We continue to work with Oracle to expand our membership. We have provided Oracle with welcome kits for new customers, and with Oracle’s assistance we continue to reach out to Hyperion & CRM customers as well as the Public Sector Healthcare Providers.

Vendor News

Vendor Partners a Critical HIUG Asset

Interact 2010 planning is well underway and one of the key elements of the conference is the annual trade show. Even in these tough economic times our vendor partners continue to show their commitment and support to the healthcare sector through their ongoing sponsorship of HIUG Online and Interact 2010. In fact, Interact 2009 had more exhibitors participating in the conference than in any of the preceding five years and the unanimous feedback from our exhibitors was that the conference was of significant value to them and that they hoped to return in 2010.

2009 was also a tough year for many of our member organizations and as a result there were fewer attendees at Interact 2009 than in preceding years. However, we all still share the same challenges (and opportunities) with our Oracle/PeopleSoft implementations and the trade show provided an excellent opportunity for our members to explore some of the solutions offered by Oracle and our other vendor partners and to speak directly with many of the product and solution experts that were present during the conference.

Sponsorship sales for Interact 2010 are now well underway and the 2010 trade show is shaping up to be even bigger than last year. With almost seven months remaining until the conference we have already sold 1/3 of the available booth space. Two of the exhibitors that have already committed are returning sponsors that were unable to participate in 2009 due to the economic situation, once again reinforcing the value that our partners see in this event. Does your organization work with a vendor that you would like to see participate in the conference as a sponsor? Tell them about it and point them to the website! Do you and your vendor partners have a great story to tell about your Oracle/PeopleSoft implementation? Consider submitting a joint presentation and invite them to be part of this exciting event as a sponsor and presenter!

As 2009 winds down and we look ahead to 2010, be sure to include Interact 2010 and the conference trade show in your plans. See you all next June!
