President’s Update
Interact 2010 is fast approaching and preparations for this year’s HIUG annual conference are in the final stages. Again, this year’s agenda is rich in content with many valuable presentations for attendees. There is a great line-up of Keynote speakers who will discuss current trends in healthcare and what’s impacting the healthcare industry today.
I want to say a special thank you to all the vendor-partners who will be participating in this year’s conference. This year’s vendor-partner fair will be bigger than ever with many new supporters, as well as many vendor-partners returning to participate, again this year. It is with their continued support that we are able to bring the HIUG attendees such a successful event. For a complete list of those vendor-partners, please follow the link below:
And, if that wasn’t enough there are workshops on Sunday and meetings of Special Interest Groups to add to the overall conference experience. If you haven’t done so already, don’t worry, there is still time to register for the conference. Don’t miss a great opportunity to network with your peers, talk with experts about the challenges your business faces today, see new ideas and solutions in action, and learn new ways to get business benefits from your Oracle applications.
HIUG Pillar News
HCM Pillar Update
This quarter in HCM we have had some great participation in our monthly conference calls. We spent time talking through how we are using the recruiting system in PeopleSoft and how we are seeing a growing impact with many of us becoming Affirmative Action employers and how that changes the way you use the system and reporting function. In May we spent time learning more about some of the new features available from Oracle to allow us to use some of the talent management functionality without upgrading. We have also distributed information on what Oracle is working on related to the healthcare reform.
Next quarter we will have the HIUG conference which will provide a great variety of sessions for our HCM community given by many PeopleSoft users. We have also added an open discussion around the healthcare reform changes and impacts on HCM so we can see what others are doing. For those not able to attend the conference, we will have presentations available after the conference. In July, we will have a session highlighting the functionality available in 9.1 related to FMLA and then will focus time on how others are using the system to address health and safety compliance and reporting in August.
We are also working to update all former enhancement requests and provide a report to our HCM community to let them know where there recommendation have been implemented or were addressed. After the conference, we will send out this report and give you all an update on the latest hot topics for the HCM community. Anyone attending the conference is encouraged to bring their ideas so we can share them with Oracle at our final session.
If you have any questions or need assistance with anything for the HCM pillar, please contact your HCM Pillar Chair, Marcie Boyer mlboyer@stvincent.org.
Supply Chain Pillar Update
The SCM pillar has had another busy and exciting quarter. The March call had good attendance and we discussed the hot topic - PeopleSoft Data Archival Strategies. One of our customers-Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center shared their approach and record retention strategies with the group.
The April call generated a lot of discussion with the hot topic for the month - Clinical Systems and PeopleSoft: How to best feed the beast with Item Master data. Many customers shared what they were doing, and how they managed interfaces, or manual builds of data in their clinical systems. We also discussed what outside resources customers tap into for scrubbing of item master data.
May's call brought the hot topic - Contracts and their ties back to PO's for Multiple BU's. Alexa Dhillon from Oracle presented on the topic and answered a host of questions for the group. This continues to be an area, where more customers are starting to use the tool set.
I am working on locating a customer or Oracle representative to speak to next month's topic: Oracle Warehouse Management System. Is anyone using or piloting this product in SCM?
Please note that we have changed the method of sharing and distributing call information. Starting with our April call, we have now made the call recording available to the membership so that you can go back and listen if you missed the call or need to validate something you heard. Please provide feedback on this process and if it meets your needs.
Lastly, I wanted to remind everyone of the request for survey information on GS1 and Application Upgrades. If you have not done so yet, please be sure to complete the survey and return it to Deb Hetrick. We have now established list serves for these 2 areas, and I would encourage you to sign up as your interests dictate. If you have any questions or need assistance with anything for the SCM pillar, please contact Deb Hetrick at hetricd@ohiohealth.com
Financials Pillar Update
The Financials Pillar has had great participation in the monthly calls, scheduled for the third Wednesday of each month at 2pm EST.
In March, the topic was a round-table discussion of Asset Management/Project Costing, and issues and concerns organizations have with these modules. There was a lot of good discussion and many questions were addressed.
April’s call was a presentation by Cameron McClurg of Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Centre on how his organization intended to use PeopleSoft’s AR/Grants/Billing/Projects to manage Clinical Trials. It was a thought-provoking presentation on a not-so-traditional use of these modules.
Mary June Dorsey of Oracle presented in May a webinar on using the Oracle Support website. She reviewed the layout of the site, and new functionality that customers may not be aware of on the site. We’re planning a follow up call in the next month to address questions that were raised on how to search the Oracle Knowledge base.
June’s call will have Ann Fletcher of UPMC discussing this organization’s use of UPK (a PeopleSoft product) when deploying training for Financial applications. Join on June 16th at 2pm ET for this session. Please join us on these monthly calls and participate in the sharing of information and ideas. As always, the forum is a great resource to answer any questions.
We also have a number of interesting sessions planned for this year’s conference. Topics being presented include: GL Reporting Tools - Leveraging BI Publisher and beyond, Integrating Best of Breed EIPP Into PeopleSoft - Receive 100% of invoices electronically!, How to use the Component Interface worksheet to load new assets and update chartfield records, and IRS 990 Reporting - Understanding the Changes and Impact on Report Preparation.
If you have any questions or need assistance with anything for the Financials Pillar, please contact Claire Suplee at Supleece@upmc.edu.

CRM Pillar Update
The CRM pillar will be having Oracle' own Terise Vick to host a webinar on "Highlights of Siebel versions 7.8 through today and beyond". This will take place on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at 1:00 PM (1 Hour 30 Minutes). The event is currently open to payers only, but it will be recorded and screen, and could be available to the community at large. This will be a great topic that will bleed over into the conference for additional discussion. So now's the time to get all of the changes that matter to a payer from Siebel version 7.8 through 8.x. See CRM calendar for details of the event.
