It is with a great deal of excitement, mixed with a little nervousness and a more than a little sadness at Deb Hetrick’s resignation, that I begin my new responsibilities as the HIUG President.
I would like to begin my first communication as President with a “Thank You” to Deb for leading us for the past 2 years. Deb has been a part of HIUG since 2004 and has served on its Board for the past 10 years in various roles. Her dedication and commitment to our group and its mission are greatly appreciated and her leadership and calm demeanor will be missed on the Board. Deb’s knowledge and experience will continue to be an asset for us as she continues her participation as the Current Past President.
It is a challenging and exciting time to be in the healthcare industry, as it continues to go through this period of transformation and uncertainty. In addition to this, Oracle is continuing to expand and enhance its product line which is bringing about many opportunities for all of us. I am looking forward to working with the Board in continuing our mission to serve the Oracle healthcare community and to build on our successes and to expand our group to include those organizations that are using Oracle Cloud applications.
I want to share with you the great work that Warren Harber, HIUG Executive Advisor, and Trudy Melzer Pavlik, HIUG Membership Chair are doing with the HIUG Executive members. Last year HIUG added a new community for our executive members. This new community, HIUG Executive Strategy Council (ESC), provides executives in our member organizations an opportunity to share and discuss key issues, strategic directions and priorities unique to healthcare throughout the year, The HIUG ESC is led by Warren and under his leadership, the focus of the HIUG ESC will be to provide strategic direction and prioritization of unique Oracle solutions for the healthcare industry and thus influence the future of our industry.
Even within its short existence, the HIUG ESC’s efforts and influence are already being realized in many ways. For example, at this year’s Interact Executive Forum, the HIUG ESC’s pressed Oracle for greater focus and emphasis on Healthcare. As a result, Oracle has initiated the formation of a “Healthcare Center of Excellence” which will partner directly with the HIUG ESC, ensuring a collective voice for us all within the healthcare industry. The HIUG ESC meets, in person (at Interact & Jan/Feb determined by members) and via conference calls (quarterly). The next conference call meeting will occur on October 20th and the next in-person meeting will be hosted by Adventist in Jan/February 2018.
I also want to share that planning for Interact 2018 is well underway and the call for presentations is going to be coming out on Monday, October 23rd. It's never too soon to start thinking of topics you want to present at Interact 2018. If you have topics that you would like to learn more about, get out on the forums and suggest the topics to the community to help encourage those qualified speakers to submit a presentation. We are starting this process earlier, based on the attendee feedback, to produce the conference agenda earlier to help organizations justify their attendee list.
I am excited about the future of the HIUG and the healthcare industry as a whole, and I look forward to working with you all during the coming year.
